This is the simplest hot tub there is. Fill it from the garden hose, light a fire in the coil, and the water heats itself with no pump and no power. Two adults sit shoulder-deep. When you are done, drain it onto the garden. No chemicals, no filter, no plumber.

How it works

The coil sits beside the tub with a small fire inside it. Water flows out of the tub into the bottom of the coil, warms as it rises, and returns through the top hose. That loop runs on its own (thermosyphon) for as long as the fire is going. Heat-up time depends on the fire, the weather and whether the cover is on, so light it early and keep the cover on until you climb in.

Set-up

Drill two holes in the tank with the hole saw size in the guide, fit the bulkheads, connect the hoses, fill and light. Most people are soaking the same afternoon the box arrives. Place the coil on bare ground or pavers, clear of anything flammable, and follow local fire restrictions on total fire ban days.

You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
